CD Projekt Red announces ‘The Witcher Remake’

The Witcher Remake

The Polish studio jumped on the “remake” bandwagon and announced that they will make The Witcher Remake using the powerful Unreal Engine 5 from scratch.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it is working on a remake of the first Witcher game. Fool’s Theory, a Polish studio, will work on the project. It is part of an ambitious plan to make five games in the franchise, including a trilogy. The remake, which has a code name of “Canis Majoris,” is just starting to be made.

The company posted the news on The Witcher’s Twitter account with a picture. CD Project Red asked fans to be patient because they won’t be able to share more information for a while.

With this announcement, CD Projekt RED joins companies like Sony, Capcom, and Konami in making their older games more modern. The Witcher is a special case because not only is it one of the remakes that fans want the most, but it would also help bring in new players to the series.

Fool’s Theory, a support studio that has worked on Baldur’s Gate III, Outriders and is currently making a weird RPG. The project will be made with the utmost care and attention to detail, CD Projekt said. The Polish company can’t take a chance on another failure like the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Especially if it wants to release a trilogy.

The Witcher Remake will target younger gamers

As a way for CD Projekt Red to start making games, the first The Witcher game came out on PC and OS X in October 2007. The company had already worked on Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, all of which are well-known RPGs. The Polish company opened its first studio in 2002, after buying the rights to make a game based on the books of Andrzej Sapkowski.

The Witcher is not at all like the other two books in the trilogy. Even though some gamers today might think it was simple, it was a big hit at the time. The game used the same Aurora Engine that ran Neverwinter Nights and its sequel. It was designed for keyboard and mouse use from a third-person perspective.

A year later, CD Projekt released a better version with fewer issues and additional options. The firm intended PS3 and Xbox 360 console versions of the PC game. The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf’s new graphics engine was canceled since the porting studio didn’t meet its goal.

CD Projekt Red has the chance to bring The Witcher up to date and make something similar to The Witcher 3 with The Witcher Remake. Thousands of fans would pay to see that story told with a new way to fight and graphics from the next generation. If you want to play the famous 2007 RPG, you can still get the original game from stores like GOG or Steam.
