Apple plans to withdraw from China this involves producing AirPods in India

Nikkei Asia says that Apple has asked its suppliers to start making some AirPods and Beats headphones in India. Part of the plan to stop relying so much on the Chinese production line is to start this project.

Apple’s plan to stop making its devices in China has more effects than it used to. Nikkei Asia says that people in Cupertino have asked their suppliers to move some AirPods and Beats headphone production to India.

The plan of the people of California is for the measure to go into effect next year. If this is true, some AirPods models will be made in India for the first time. Up until now, Apple’s wireless headphones have been made in China and Vietnam.

According to the report, Foxconn is already making plans to deal with this new strategy. But it makes it clear that at first, it will focus on making Beats products in India. Luxshare, on the other hand, will move some AirPods production to its factories in that country, but it won’t be a top priority. It’s that, first of all, the company wants to keep improving the Apple headphones production line in Vietnam.

There are no details yet about which AirPods will be made in India starting in 2023. In 2019, Apple headphones started being made in Vietnam. This was one of the first steps that those led by Tim Cook took to get out of China. At the moment, some of the third-generation AirPods and the first AirPods Pro come from factories in Vietnam.

Apple takes a step out of China and into India with AirPods

There are two ways to look at what is going on with Apple. On the one hand, what has been clear for a while now is the desire to break free from the Chinese assembly line. It’s easier to say something than to do it. After all, the Asian giant makes more than 90% of Apple products right now. And in some cases, like the iPhone, the concentration is even higher, since 98% of the iPhones made in 2021 came from China. India and Brazil each got 2% of what was left.

With the strict blockades put in place because of COVID-19 outbreaks hurting the assembly of its products and the political tension between the US and China getting worse, it would be the perfect time for Apple to try to find new markets.

The other meaning has to do with wanting to be more present in a place like India where interest is growing. If the AirPods are finally made there, they will be added to products like the iPhone SE, 13 and 14. This is not a small change. It’s that those led by Tim Cook would have seen their expansion into India at first as a way to focus on the domestic market, but now they would see it as an important way to sell goods in other countries.

Apple will have to work hard to become less dependent on China. But people in California seem ready to deal with it, and AirPods are also a big part of this story.
